MetaTrader 4 Integration

Your MT4 history, journaled automatically

Connect with a read-only investor password — every trade, lot size, and swap syncs itself. You analyze; nothing gets typed.

Read-only access — TradeInsights can never place trades or move funds.

Most MT4 traders journal by exporting HTML statements and massaging them in a spreadsheet — so the journal is always days behind and the analysis never happens. TradeInsights connects to your MT4 account with a read-only investor password and your broker's server name, then keeps itself current. Your only job is reviewing what the data says about your trading.

Connect MetaTrader 4 in minutes

Uses a read-only investor password. Most traders are synced in under five minutes.

  1. 1

    Find your investor password

In MT4, your broker issued two passwords: the master (trading) password and the investor (read-only) password. Use the investor one — it can view trades but never place them. You can set or reset it in MT4 under Tools → Options → Server, or from your broker's client portal.

  2. 2

    Note your server name

The exact server string is shown on the MT4 login screen and in the terminal's title bar — something like 'ICMarketsSC-Live04'. TradeInsights needs it to route the connection to the right broker server.

  3. 3

    Add the account in TradeInsights

Go to Broker Integration → MetaTrader 4 and enter your account login number, investor password, and server name. The connection is validated immediately.

  4. 4

    Initial import + continuous sync

Your full trade history imports on first connect. From then on, closed trades appear in your journal automatically, and your equity is polled every few minutes — which also powers prop firm drawdown alerts.

What your MT4 data unlocks

A journal is only as good as the analysis it produces

Session breakdown that forex traders actually need

See win rate and average R split by London, New York, and Asia sessions. Most MT4 traders discover one session quietly subsidizes the others — and that's an immediate, free improvement.

Prop firm drawdown alerts from live equity

Because TradeInsights polls your MT4 equity every few minutes, it can warn you at 80% of your FTMO, Apex, or TopStep daily and total drawdown limits — before the breach, not in the post-mortem.

EA trades analyzed separately from manual trades

Magic numbers come across in the sync, so your Expert Advisor performance is split from your discretionary trading. Find out whether the robot or the human is making the money.

AI coaching on your real fills

Claude and GPT-5.5 review your actual MT4 history — revenge trading after stop-outs, oversized lots after losses, time-of-day tilt — and tell you specifically what to change.

MetaTrader 4 journal — FAQ

Is the investor password safe to share?

Yes — that's exactly what it exists for. The investor password is read-only by design: it can view trades and balance but cannot place orders, modify positions, or withdraw funds. Credentials are stored encrypted with AES-256.

Which MT4 brokers are supported?

Any broker running standard MT4 servers — IC Markets, Pepperstone, XM, FTMO, Exness, and hundreds more. If your MT4 terminal can log in to it, TradeInsights can connect to it via the server name.

Does it work with prop firm MT4 accounts?

Yes, and that's one of the most common setups. Connect your challenge or funded account and the prop firm tracker monitors daily/total drawdown against pre-loaded rules for FTMO, Apex, TopStep, and 8+ other firms.

How often do trades sync?

Equity is polled every few minutes and closed trades appear in your journal automatically shortly after they close. No end-of-day exports, no manual refresh.

Can I import old history from before I connected?

Your account's available trade history imports on first connect. For archived history beyond what your broker's server returns, upload an MT4 statement export under File Import.
